AGAINST THE EVIL EYE

The evil eye, often steeped in ancient folklore and cultural beliefs, is a concept found in

various societies across the globe.

In its essence, the evil eye reflects the fear of envy and jealousy. It's believed that individuals with a particularly strong gaze or those harbouring negative emotions can inadvertently transmit harmful energy through their eyes. This energy, according to the belief, can cause harm to the recipient, often manifesting as illness, accidents, or a string of unfortunate events.

In the Middle East and North Africa, there is a strong belief in the potential harm caused by the evil eye, particularly when someone praises or admires another person or their possessions without expressing verbal protection.

Praising a baby's cuteness or commenting on someone's success or possessions without appending a protective phrase like "Mashaa Allah" will see surrounding people immediately applying the phrase in protection of the respective person or object. This practice serves both as a cultural tradition and a way to express gratitude for the blessings one receives. It is a subtle reminder of the belief in divine protection and the recognition that all good things come from God.
