As an artist, it's often difficult when you're not working in your own studio. That's why I've never accepted artist residencies. My work needs calm and quiet. I can't just spread out my materials on a table and start painting, only to have to clear away the stuff some time later.

My grandchildren are big fans of their grandfather's work - but they are also kids. Painting around them is definitely a challenge. In the end, it always comes down to the question: what's more important right now - making progress on my paintings, or giving attention to the children and their creative moments ?

Over the past few months, I've chosen the kids and their activities - after all they won't be little forever.

In November, I'll return to my studio for some very active months.
