In Hamida's teenage years in Tunisia, he held a unique perspective on the women surrounding him, envisioning them as reminiscent of the curvy form of gargoulettes, especially those seasoned by the joys of matrimony and motherhood. This imaginative tableau inspired the creation of his cherished artistic anthology, affectionately titled


The Gargoulette Series


A gargoulette is crafted from clay, looking either naturally brown or being embellished by a big variety of decorative motives. It's distinctive shape, often resembling a bulbous body with a long neck or simply like a vase serves many functional purposes, to store water, olive oil, olives. The one with the narrow neck prevents water from spilling while pouring, making it also an ideal vessel for transporting and storing liquids.


Beyond its utilitarian function, the Gargoulette holds deep cultural significance in Tunisian society. It is a symbol of hospitality, tradition, and commercial gatherings. In many Tunisian households, offering a guest a drink from the Gargoulette is a gesture of warmth, showcasing the host's generosity and care for their guests.
